February 2000 by Edgar B. Heylmun, PhDThe Little Rocky Mountains are a group of wooded hills, 10 miles long and 8 miles wide, which form an island in the Great Plains of north-central Montana. They rise to 5,708 feet, 2,000 feet above the surrounding plains.
A Spokane mining company says it plans to develop a silver and copper mine in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness Area on the Idaho-Montana border.
