Placer Gold in Washington
February 2001 by Edgar B. Heylmun, PhDThe state of Washington is not especially known for placer gold, yet significant amounts have been recovered in a few districts. These deposits are usually downstream from lode mining areas, some of which are in British Columbia.
One of the best-known placer gold localities in southern Arizona is at Greaterville, 45 miles, by road, southeast of downtown Tucson. The site of mile-high Greaterville is in grasslands and oak woodlands, on the east flank of the Santa Rita Mountains.
