The only phrase that comes to mind in reviewing this past month is "deja vu." We've seen all this before; falling gold prices, rising stock markets, soaring hi-tech stocks, crazy initial public offerings (IPO's) and a return to public confidence that all problems can be solved.Melman on Gold & Silver
No single factor has been as important in the control of inflationary pressures over the past few years as the decline in commodity prices. As long as the cost of raw materials was declining, industry was able to produce goods with minimal increases in price.

When we look ahead into 2011, we see continuing troubles such as those listed earlier, which will force the public to question the effectiveness of the entire concept of economic strength and vitality through government interventions. In fact, many of those interventions have been abject failures, and we wonder if or when the public will lose confidence in the entire system.

On a similar vein, while the number of new non-farm jobs created rose by a modest 156,000 in September, it must be pointed out that Goods Production Payrolls rose by only 10,000 jobs while much lower paying service jobs accounted for the other 146,000.
Governor Tells Industry He Will Consider Tax Cuts
Gov. Bill Owens announced to members of the mining industry that he would consider a proposal that provides significant tax reductions for mining companies.
