Q: Where is the best place to prospect for gold in Minnesota?
The Forest Service issued an Interim Rule on July 9, 2004, to require a Notice of Intent or Plan for mining activities that cause little or no disturbance to public lands under Forest Service jurisdiction.
The sunbeams are winding their way through the snowclouds. I am rising out of Death Valley to engage in some reverie, a journey into times past. Prospect pits, phantoms from boom times’ extinct, appear on the side of the road. Soon, I enter the Bullfrog Mining District.
Many well-equipped prospecting or mining operations, those with adequate, up-to-date equipment, have discovered a secret: Uncle Sam, in the form of our tax laws, is eager to pick-up a portion of the tab for acquiring and modernizing the equipment necessary to operate a successful mining operation business.
It seemed that the preacher always gave the same answer to anyone who asked where his gold had come from. His answer was, “If you know your gold, you can find it. However, you will have to find it the hard way, the way I found it.”
I (enjoy) Twain’s description of a gold mine, “A hole in the ground with a liar at the top.” Some humor here? You bet, but I’m sure he meant it to be a real eye opener as well.
