August 2014 by Chris RalphEven as late as 1906, Delamar was second only to Tonopah and Goldfield in production outshining many better known areas. Since the first discoveries, more than 700,000 ounces of gold have been produced from the mines here.
Silver Peak is a small mining community in Esmeralda County in west-central Nevada, about 30 miles west of Goldfield. Although it’s fairly remote, it’s been an important mining center since the early days.
Most gold-bearing veins in this region are controlled by fractures associated with the Melones Fault, a late Cretaceous structure that is 108 to 127 million years old.
Exploration for and prospecting in search of similar deposits should focus on rhyolite bodies located in fluorite-bearing areas.
In the simplest sense, drills can be divided by their mode of action—percussion, rotary or a mixture of the two.

It is the second largest gem-quality diamond in history, after the 3,106-carat “Cullinan Diamond” was recovered in South Africa in 1905.
