The Struggle to Reopen Alaska's Largest Gold Mine
The historical AJ mine, located east of Juneau, Alaska, was considered the largest gold mine in the state at one time. Joe Juneau and Richard Harris struck gold there in 1880, and it has been more recently known as a tourist destination.
The Gold Belts of Georgia
There are a number of "gold belts" and portions of belts, which cut north-eastwardly across the Piedmont and Blue Ridge provinces of Georgia. The most prominent is the Dahlonega Belt, which extends from Alabama to North Carolina.

BLM Runs Check on Assay Services
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently conducted a multi-year study of sixty-five assay laboratories to determine the accuracy of their testing procedures. The laboratories, all located in North America, were provided with ore samples of known concentrations without benefit of identifying the source as BLM. Payment was rendered for the service provided.
