Gold production was concentrated heavily in the Sierra Nevada foothills in the northern part of the state. However, the high mountainous region of eastern San Diego County was the site of a number of productive hardrock gold mines, notably in the late 19th century.
Q: Where do I find out information about raw gold being tested for purity, refined, and getting paid cash for it?
The potential exists for small-scale placer mining in these pits using a trommel and sluice box or other similar types of equipment.
