Platinum in Nevada
November 2003 by Edgar B. Heylmun, PhDPlatinum group metals (PGMs) have been noted at a few localities in Nevada, especially in Clark County. Unfortunately, some of these occurrences have been associated, in the past, with fraudulent schemes. The amount of PGMs found so far has not been enough for commercially important mining operations, but the mere fact that PGMs are present is worthy of note.

Many well-equipped prospecting or mining operations, those with adequate, up-to-date equipment, have discovered a secret: Uncle Sam, in the form of our tax laws, is eager to pick-up a portion of the tab for acquiring and modernizing the equipment necessary to operate a successful mining operation business.
Apart from the hard rock mines, there are abundant gold-bearing placers, especially in the areas in and around Oriental Wash.
