It all started with a phone call from my friend and prospecting partner Pat Keene. He told me that he knew of an investor who was just starting out in the gold industry and was looking for a gold consultant to go to Africa to prospect and analyze a 400 sq. mile concession in the middle of the Congo rainforest. During the past month, we have witnessed an orgy of buying on many of the world’s markets with Japan soaring by over 1,000 points (see Nikkei chart), Germany and France rallying strongly and here in America, the NASDAQ Index has risen to over 1,700 (see chart). However, when we look at the economic fundamentals, it appears to be a case of, as Sir Winston Churchill might have put it, “Never have so many become so excited about so little.”
The Lost Silver Triangle of the Sierra Madre—Conclusion: Tayopa, Guaynopa, and Guaynopita
Lieutenant Henry O. Flipper might well have been correct about the “Santa Fe de Rodríquez” being the name of what is now called Guaynopa. However, an Indian named Agustín de la Cruz, who was associated with Cristóbal Rodríquez, is credited with discovering the mine in 1741. It is probable that the Spanish settlement had indeed been found because of its rather extensive ruins.
