Mining Claim Maintenance Fee Due
June 1999 by Associated PressFor miners holding a mining claim, mill site or tunnel site on public lands, August 31, 1999 is the last day to meet the annual filing requirement and pay the $100 maintenance fee to the Bureau of Land Management.
Many miners who have hoarded their gold for years are now tempted by higher prices. Several friends with multiple pound nugget collections have sold them recently for cash.

The principal gold belt in Vermont extends south from the Canadian border along the east side of the Green Mountains, as far south as the Massachusetts line. The entire region was glaciated during the Great Ice Age and the glaciers contained streaks of finely-divided gold, so some of the gold found in Vermont originated in what is now Canada.
