Gold in Mono County, California

Lode gold and silver mines and prospects can be found in many parts of Mono County, from the Sweetwater Mountains on the north to the White Mountains on the south, and at elevations ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 feet. Mining activity on the rugged east flank of the Sierra Nevada is now severely restricted, especially in resort areas and where lands adjoin Yosemite National Park.Trying Out the New Highbanker
The 2011 gold season had finally got underway on the Middle Fork of the Feather River near Quincy, California. Cold weather and high water had pushed gold mining into mid-summer, but things were looking up.
