US Mining Industry Outlook Brighter
May 2004 by Daniel JensenSmaller exploration and development companies, many of which were international, were driven out of the US during the Clinton era and are now looking for signs that it’s safe to come back. Policy changes, rising metal prices, a weakened dollar and a more positive hiring forecast may be the most attractive set of signs the industry has seen in years.
Although it is now known that Mount Diablo, located in Contra Costa County in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, was the site of the largest coal mining operation in the state during the last half of the 19th century... this majestic focal point... also was the source of other minerals.
Each year this annual event is staged to determine just who is the best of the best, and each year this event becomes larger. This time one hundred ninety contestants decided to prove just how good they were.
Palladium may well be an underexplored element and therefore an opportunity for prospectors and geologists. This is because they are often less than obvious and other than the native metals, a chemical analysis of samples is required to identify PGM-enriched rocks.
Before it was over, 200 buckets of gravel and gold were swished and swirled in competition to determine who was the best gold panner in the County.
...if you are out prospecting and find something that looks very much like a nugget but has an odd greenish-gray cast to it, don’t be too quick to simply toss it aside as junk.
