The Swift Shore Mine 1862—Present
March 2001 by Don RobinsonMichigan Bluff is an old mining town dating back to the 1850s. It is located in Placer County, about 25 miles northeast of Auburn, just past the town of Foresthill. It sits on the very edge of a mountain, with the Middle Fork of the American River flowing about 1200 feet lower at the bottom of the canyon.
We began investigating mining districts in Arizona and nearby states within the Basin and Range province. Just like I anticipated, there are many overlooked gold and copper deposits and anomalies.

The most obvious benches are usually near the valley floor, but they can be thousands of feet above the valley floor. Since benches were made by streams, they can contain placer deposits.
