The Beatty Mining District of Nevada

The Beatty Mining District in south-central Nevada has been one of the most productive Mining Districts in the state, producing millions of ounces of gold together with silver, fluorite, mercury and other valuable minerals.
The $800 million project will provide 300 jobs during production. It will be the only US mine where nickel is the primary targeted mineral, with about 360 million pounds to be extracted.
“We feel that we can clean up an area that has been abandoned after 100 years of mining,” Lyon said.
It was only a few years ago that China was taxing and limiting quantities of exports for rare earths in an effort squeeze the market, drive up prices and extract the most in the way of income.
For more than 40 years, iron ore prices have been decided by private negotiations conducted between the largest of the iron miners and the largest steel producers. These two sides dominate both the spot and contract iron ore markets.
Even with the decades of mining and exploration, much of the Comstock is still underdeveloped and its potential not fully tapped.
Without this versatile group of technologies, we would be hard-pressed to produce the metals so critical to our modern way of life. The robust mining industry of today would literally not exist.
Alaska is in the midst of assessing its rare-earth resources, an effort pushed by Governor Sean Parnell, who sees them as another example of where the US is reliant on foreign sources to meet its needs.
