Understanding Large Gold Deposit Types: Discovering New Mines
The other opportunity that I see is in seeking unusual types of deposits. Specifically, the prospector would be searching for the stuff no one (or almost no one) is searching for. These deposits are effectively hiding in plain view.

Gold in Moffat County, Colorado
The area of interest in this article is in eastern Moffat County, located in northwestern Colorado adjacent to the Wyoming line. It is a high, sagebrush prairie which ranges from 6,200 to 7,200 feet in elevation, north and northwest of the county seat of Craig (pop. 8,000).
Collecting Garnets in Wyoming
In Wyoming, garnets are often common where aluminum-rich (micaceous) rocks have been highly metamorphosed. Such rocks are recognized by abundant black (biotite), silver (muscovite), or green (chlorite) mica with periodic grains of red garnet.
