Update: Forest Service Interim Rule
On July 9, 2004, Under Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Mark Rey, published the “Interim Rule.” By its own terms, the Interim Rule became effective on August 9, 2004, without regard to public comments. Public comments were, however, received until September 7, 2004.

Gold in Iceland?
Normally, one does not look at volcanic islands in a search for gold. However, rich gold deposits have been found in or near volcanoes at Lihir and Misima Islands near New Guinea, so one cannot dismiss gold opportunities on volcanic islands. All of Iceland is of volcanic origin, with acidic volcanic rocks like rhyolite and granophyre being present at a few localities.
Michigan Approves Nickel, Copper Mine
Regulators gave final approval to a nickel and copper mine for the Upper Peninsula.
