Oregon Miners File Suit Against Fisheries Service

Eastern Oregon Mining Association members have filed a federal lawsuit against the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) demanding that the agency provide biological opinions on any threat to wildlife or the environment so miners can begin working their claims.Important Court Cases
Siskiyou Regional Education Project (SREP) v. US Forest Service was appealed to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals; the Karuk's have abandoned their latest request for emergency regulations in California; and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board seeking comments "to protect stream and wetland systems."
PLP Update
The ESA has become an unwieldy beast that was hijacked by government agencies run amok, and by extreme environmental groups who saw it as a way to lock up public lands and to generate income through exaggerated claims and continuous lawsuits.

Pacific Northwest Miners Request Help
On May 29, 2001, the Siskiyou Natl. Forest (SNF) announced that they will be preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the effects of suction dredging, with the hope of eventually approving Plans of Operation, as required by the 1994 Northwest Forest Plan.
