Mining Expedition at Eagle Rock—Part I

The mining and logging camp of Zeballos (pop. 272) is located on an arm of Esperanza Inlet, on the southwest side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Vancouver Island is 301 miles, by road, and reaches elevations as high as 7,249 feet.
As decade-high gold and silver prices spark a renewed interest in mining in the West, there are few mining education programs and fewer students earning mining engineering degrees due to two decades of decline in the US mining industry.
What today appears to be a “road to nowhere” was once a road to somewhere. At today’s precious metal prices that somewhere can be of great importance to you.
While mapping, I also found rock chips in the soil that were characteristic of the same wall rock alteration that occurs adjacent to the known lodes in the greenstone belt.
The Piedmont region of the eastern United States extends for over 800 miles, from Alabama northeast to Pennsylvania. It includes the rolling country between the flat coastal plain to the east and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.
I set up my dry washer on the north side of the cut and sampled the bed rock and dumps around me. As I was only sampling, I ran for 20-30 minutes, shoveling from a variety of areas.
