Silver City Prospecting Adventures
May 2009 by Alan J. ChenworthI got to Silver City late on a Friday night (OK, it was 2:30am Saturday morning), and the first few snowflakes began to fall as I pulled into the campsite.

Butte County, California—On January 29, 1978, Peter and I received permission from Joie Osgood to pan and look for gold on her property. The 3800 acre property was located about four miles northeast of Honcut, Butte County, California.
I opened the front door of my house at 5:00 AM to find it raining hard and water standing in puddles all over the driveway. Just great! It hadn’t rained for 3 weeks, and on the morning we were leaving for a weekend dredging trip, the weather decided to change.
We spent the winter and spring months obtaining all of the prospecting and camping gear that would be needed to sustain the five of us for 14 days on the river.
