Welcome back to our mining claim. In part one we located our claim, sunk our shaft, and stored some ore in the ore bin. Now we must decide how we are going to extract the gold. We briefly discussed setting up a lab in a 40-foot semi-trailer at the mine site, so let’s decide what we are going to need in the lab.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has added some useful tools to their website. The Land and Mineral Use Records system has been meshed with a map viewer that allows users to obtain mining claim information in a useful format.
Skarn consists of coarse-grained calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum silicates formed by hydrothermal solutions, which replace limestone or dolomite near the contact with an igneous intrusion. The contact metamorphism is usually caused by an intrusion such as quartz monzonite, granodiorite, or similar rock type, which may or may not be mineralized.
Of course, I know a bit about crevicing, but Steve seems to really have a knack for it, and I’m all about continual learning. I can always learn a few tricks from the pros.
