Once again international terrorism became the focus of much of the world as the British Isles were swept by two major stories. First, two vehicles were found with high explosives in London and it was only the smoldering fuses that gave away the contents of the vehicles before they exploded.
We panned out maybe three gold pans of the material and we were shocked at the gold that was there. This rock appeared to be rich.
In this trip, Riley came along with Jay, and Harold came down later. We brought a six-inch dredge down to the creek. We had hoped to use it, but we didn’t.
The solo prospector in his canvas field clothes and skin-thick skiff is still king of the rain forest in southeastern Alaska. Even with all the highly trained field people and their helicopters, it is he who ventures forth across ocean water and in the bush to search for new wealth hidden beneath the green carpet of the vast Tongass Forest.
An article entitled “BLM Swindles War Hero Out of Gold Mine,” authored by Robert Boatman, appeared in our September 2002 issue. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was unable to provide comment on the article at the time.
