As far as I knew, he didn’t know any more about me than I did about him. Consequently, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Jack ask, “Would you like to come and work with me?”
For the second year in a row the historic mining town of Foresthill hosted the California State Gold Panning Championships. The State Championships are sponsored by the Mother Lode Goldhounds, a California non-profit corporation.
Everyone has a bucket list, and one of my items has always been to dredge and dive in a major river, Oregon’s Rogue, with the opportunity to find some chunky gold.
I thought things started off okay until I realized I had forgotten some of my gear and had to return to the house. My troubled start was not helped when my boy came up to me a few minutes after my return to show me his first nugget of the day.
Budgetary deficits can be reversed by a combination of only two factors; increasing revenues and decreasing expenditures, and we would prefer a combination of both factors occurring simultaneously. Unfortunately, it appears to us that President Obama failed to respond to such simple considerations.
Those who declared that our world would be forever changed after the events of September 11 certainly appear to have been right. Not only is the evening news filled with the events of the anti-terrorist war, but even our vocabulary has changed—along with our geographic knowledge. People who did not know Afghanistan from East Timor—and who could have cared less—can now recite at will facts about Kabul, Islamabad, Jalalabad and Uzbekistan.
