The Phoenix Gold Mine is located approximately 7 miles south of Concord, North Carolina, and was discovered in about 1836, some 37 years following the first discovery of gold in the United States and a few years following the discovery of gold in quartz veins by Joseph Barringer.12-Year-Old Unearths Large Diamond
It is the eighth largest brown diamond to be found and certified by park staff.

Doc Livingston
Charles “Doc” Livingston was born September 28, 1920, in Veve, Indiana. At the ripe old age of 13, he moved to a bustling mining town called Iowa Hill, in Placer County, California. For the next 64 years he worked in, around, or out of the historic mining town.
