I particularly enjoyed this little expedition. It is always nice to get out and spend time with my father, Bud Herschbach. He has taken a liking to Mills Creek and was anxious to return and look for more nuggets.

Certain words or phrases may stump the layman, but just skip those parts and go on to the portions of the books that are easily understood. Some of the old-time mining geology books should be in every small miner’s collection.

The future is still good for anyone wishing to use a metal detector to nuggetshoot residual and hillside eluvial placers. Since these placers are easily overlooked, the key to opening the door marked "success" is the willingness to do research.

New Life for the Suction Nozzle
The suction nozzle was one of the first Venturi nozzles to be used in the dredging business. Years later it was replaced with the straight Venturi system, which is sometimes referred to as a “log.” The main benefit of the log is that the operator only needs a suction hose with a short nozzle.
