Picks & Pans: Prospecting at Mills Creek, Alaska
March 2000 by Steve HerschbachI particularly enjoyed this little expedition. It is always nice to get out and spend time with my father, Bud Herschbach. He has taken a liking to Mills Creek and was anxious to return and look for more nuggets.
The high price of gold and the poor economic conditions here in the US have created an unusual situation—a large number of folks are thinking seriously about getting into prospecting and digging for gold on a full-time basis.
Q: Since the weather in California is not as nasty as it is in Alaska, would it be advisable to wear the same setups as he wrote about?
Toward the end of this summer, we expect another Federal Register notice will be published that deals with Forest Service mining regulations.
