The Phoenix Gold Mine: A Brief History


The Phoenix Gold Mine is located approximately 7 miles south of Concord, North Carolina, and was discovered in about 1836, some 37 years following the first discovery of gold in the United States and a few years following the discovery of gold in quartz veins by Joseph Barringer.

Greaterville, Arizona


One of the best-known placer gold localities in southern Arizona is at Greaterville, 45 miles, by road, southeast of downtown Tucson. The site of mile-high Greaterville is in grasslands and oak woodlands, on the east flank of the Santa Rita Mountains.
