BLM Proposed Rule Making Affects Mining Claims

In this proposed rule, BLM is seeking to amend regulations to respond to a recent law that continues to require claimants to pay location and maintenance fees on unpatented mining claims or sites and to provide annual maintenance fee waivers to small miners until September 30, 2001.Miner's Cabin—Red Shack Territory
As we approached the river the view was outstanding and the sight was encouraging. A ravine coming down on the right side had been worked heavily, with rock piled back on each side. That surely meant there was gold somewhere close.

Placer Gold in Idaho
Idaho is situated in the Rocky Mountains except for the southern third, which encompasses the Snake River Plain and desert mountains to the south. Elevations range up to 12,662 feet at Mt. Borah, with annual precipitation varying from 8 inches in the south to over 60 inches in the central mountains.

Ore dressing is of prime importance to the operator of a small hardrock gold mine. No, Virginia, ore dressing has nothing to do with dressing in the latest spring dresses, or the stuff that gets forced into the turkey on Thanksgiving. It refers to the method of processing ore to extract the valuable minerals contained in the rock—in the case of this series of articles, gold and silver.
