Historic Mining at Mount Diablo, CA


Located in Contra Costa County in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, Mount Diablo was the site of the largest coal mining operation in the state in the last half of the nineteenth century. The northern foothills of the mountain produced nearly four million tons of coal.

Gold in the Drum Mountains


The Drum Mountains are located 23 to 30 airline miles northwest of Delta (pop. 2,000), in west-central Utah. The desert mountains rise to 7,233 feet and receive only 8 inches of precipitation a year.
