The Kern River

There are clubs with claims in the area and there’s a section of the river open to the public, but the rest of the area is claimed up so do your research first.
The more experienced prospectors know these lesser known spots are the types of places where big finds are still made.
How to go about the entire process of prospecting is a big question. The answer comes down to research and preparation.
A large, 8-pennyweight piece popped out of a very small crevice where the water had been extremely swift in the winter, leaving no visible gravel.
How big is the deposit? Are there boulders you will need to move? Do you just want to recover the nuggets or do you think there is good fine gold that you will also want to capture?
The first pieces found were in a spot that most gold hunters would not even detect, right in the middle of a downslope meadow.
Familiarizing oneself with an unfamiliar part of the country is often a requirement of successful gold prospecting. In the pursuit of gold, it may become necessary for a prospector to branch out into new hunting grounds.
With successively lower temperatures as the water mixture cools, new sets of minerals are formed and many of those stable at a higher degree of heat became subject to alteration as the temperature progressively moved lower.
