Volumes have been written on the subject of mining in Mexico ever since the first Spanish conquistadors undertook to strip bare the newfound land in the 6th century. Gold and silver, which attracted Cortez and the Spanish Inquisition, was there for the taking, and the fabulously rich mines of Guanajuanto, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas, Real del Monte, San Luis Potosi, Durango and Taxco, among others, became famous throughout the New World and Europe.
Enthusiastic Crowds at PDAC
Nearly 11,000 attended this year’s Prospector and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention in Toronto. Joe Hamilton, president of the Convention Planning Committee, beleived he knew why the numbers were so high.
Benton’s Rich Silver
Prospectors looking for the next Comstock Lode tried mining for silver in the Benton Hot Springs area in California in 1862. On a ridge southeast of the town, they found what they were looking for—rich hornsilver.
Resolution Copper Mine, Arizona
The Resolution copper mine is near Superior, Arizona (population 3,500), along the west side of the Pinal Mountains in central Arizona, 64 miles east of downtown Phoenix. The region receives about 16 inches of rain per year, enough to support chaparral vegetation.
Iron Ores and Iron Mining
For more than 40 years, iron ore prices have been decided by private negotiations conducted between the largest of the iron miners and the largest steel producers. These two sides dominate both the spot and contract iron ore markets.
A True Endangered Species
Immediate action is needed. I would like to recommend that Homo sapiens be listed as a “threatened species” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

All of these negatives have finally begun to erode bullishness on Wall Street and the financial markets began to look wobbly at best and dangerously weak at worst.
