New Tax Considerations For Your Mining Business
March 2008 by Mark E. BattersbyThe recently passed Economic Stimulus Package of 2008 is a $168-billion economic “rescue” package that includes rebates for taxpayers and tax breaks for businesses. At the heart of the package are tax rebates, scheduled to be distributed beginning in early May. The tax breaks for small-scale mining operations and businesses are retroactive to the beginning of 2008.
Diamond exploration in Canada has led to a major new industry that did not exist prior to six years ago. Yet today, Canada ranks as one of the world’s leading producers of gem-quality diamonds.
One of the reasons I am bringing this article forward to readers now is that the mine personnel are celebrating the production of 150 million ounces of silver since 1986.
A quartz piece was rolled over and there it was, staring right at us—beautiful, coarse gold coming right out of the quartz rock. It was almost the size of a softball, and it looked like over one quarter of it had gold throughout!
