The Klamath Oldland
September 2004 by Edgar B. Heylmun, PhDThe Klamath Mountain province includes a number of separate mountain ranges, such as the Bully Choop, Marble, Salmon, Siskiyou, Trinity Alps, and Yolla Bolly, among others. They are collectively referred to as the “Klamath Mountains” in this article.
The Forest Service has been busy lately, promulgating rules and regulations that will negatively impact small miners and prospectors. Public Lands for the People (PLP) is taking action to put a stop to it.
“Much of the ground where Ms. Hollingshead found her diamond is made of unweathered volcanic rock. When it rains, flowing runoff often leaves loose gravel, and sometimes diamonds, on the surface in these areas.”

Somehow, we received the impression from these two gatherings and from other conversations that bureaucrats in general are simply not aware of how difficult it is to raise capital to finance mining operations and how important it is for newer companies to show true progress in order to receive further financing.
An article entitled “BLM Swindles War Hero Out of Gold Mine,” authored by Robert Boatman, appeared in our September 2002 issue. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was unable to provide comment on the article at the time.
Within these districts, some of the roads and trails have been reopened for access, critical habitat designations have been scaled back, and a few Mining Districts were completely removed from proposed withdrawals.
