Picks & Pans: Nuggetshooting Around Cactus

I mostly nugget hunt within the Great Basin and Mojave desert areas of California and Nevada, and less frequently the Sonoran desert of Arizona. I have discovered the gamma grass, sagebrush and creosote areas of the Great Basin and Mojave are friendlier to nuggetshoot than the vegetation within the Sonoran desert.The Hanging Tree

Collecting Garnets in Wyoming
In Wyoming, garnets are often common where aluminum-rich (micaceous) rocks have been highly metamorphosed. Such rocks are recognized by abundant black (biotite), silver (muscovite), or green (chlorite) mica with periodic grains of red garnet.
The Birthday Nugget Patch
Down around 10 or 12 inches I hit a large cobble that appeared to be one type of hot rock for this area. I thought bad things about the new technology until I checked the rock.
