Republican lawmakers walk out in Oregon over climate legislation

GOP lawmakers in Oregon walked out of the Oregon State Senate on Monday, preventing Democrats from obtaining a quorum to advance proposed climate legislation aimed at creating a cap-and-trade program in the state.
The bill would force businesses in Oregon to modify their equipment or purchase credits to off-set carbon dioxide emissions. Democrats have a super-majority in Oregon, controlling three-fifths of the seats in the Senate. Republicans contend the legislation should be brought before the voters.
