Important: Water Board meeting for northern California dredgers on September 7

On September 7, 2010, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board for the North Coast Region will be considering Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) limitations for the Klamath River and Lost River Basins.

The agency admitted they lacked the science to establish these limitations during a Water Board meeting back in March, and we provided a summary of that meeting in our May 2010 issue. (See California Water Board Tries to Restrict Dredging.)

The Water Board is now moving to approve TMDL limitations in an effort to restrict suction gold dredging in the Klamath River and Lost River Basins in northern California. The board will vote on the proposed limitations on September 7 in Sacramento.

Concerned dredgers should make every effort to attend the meeting to voice their opposition. If the proposal is approved then a lawsuit will be necessary to correct the situation.
