Holiday Hours and a note from the editor

December 23, 2014

Holiday Hours: For the first time I can remember, we are going to close our office to give our staff an extended break for Christmas. They have earned it.

Our office will close at noon on December 24 and reopen at 8:00am on January 2

And on a personal note...

I don't normally post personal stuff, but this is the season to count your blessings.

Our youngest daughter, at four years old, is anxiously awaiting Santa's arrival. She loves anything related to animals and has already decided she wants to be a veterinarian.  One of her favorite activities is to hunt for critters.

Our middle daughter is fourteen and has become a mentor and companion for our youngest. She excels at sports and in school, and loves photography and astronomy.  She's very sharp and there doesn't seem to be anything she can't accomplish when she sets her mind to it.

Our oldest daughter just turned sixteen and is also extremely bright. Fortunately she is not in a hurry to drive. She just finished singing in a Christmas concert series with James Durbin, who was on American Idol a few years ago. (He finished fourth that season.) She headed out on stage by herself to lead off two songs before she was joined by several other girls her age and younger. And no, she didn't get the singing talent from me. (She is 2nd from the left in the photo.)

My wife Sally has been juggling kids, cleaning, cooking and providing for the family, all while working a full-time job. She handles the advertising accounts, design and layout for ICMJ's Prospecting and Mining Journal. She is the rock that holds our family intact and a blessing for the past 23 years.

Our awesome writers and contributors have helped make us the most respected gold prospecting magazine in the industry and we are eternally grateful.

Our loyal advertisers and readers have stayed with us through thick and thin, making the long hours worth the effort.

I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of Public Lands for the People, their volunteer staff, and the miners and prospectors who support them. PLP and the many other groups fighting for all of our rights over the years have helped us stay in business since 1931.

From our family to yours: We hope you take the time to count your blessings this holiday season. Have a very Merry Christmas and find plenty of gold in the New Year!
