Comments needed on Oregon small-scale mining regulations

June 3, 2010

The comment period closes on June 8. Please take a few minutes to address the problems associated with the proposed regulations.

From Waldo Mining District president Tom Kitchar:

At the top of the list of concerns the miners have with the new permit is the fact that DEQ is again (just like with the present 700PM and the earlier 700J permits) issuing it (in part) pursuant to Section 402 of the Clean Water Act for the EPA, even though the Oregon Court of Appeals ruled that the discharge of streambed sediment was properly under the authority of the US Army Corps of Engineers and not the EPA.

More information is readily available on the Waldo Mining District website.
