From The Editor: A Note to Our Readers and Advertisers

It’s been 22 years since my wife Sally and I purchased the Journal from my parents Ken and Kathy Harn, and it’s been an extremely rewarding experience. This was our second career after spending 13 years in law enforcement.

We are now looking toward retirement and the Journal will have new owners by the time you receive this issue, but we are not heading anywhere just yet. We want to assure you that we took our time, looking for someone energetic and knowledgeable, and I think we found the perfect match.

Josh Reinke and his wife Sherrie have been involved in mining for many years, and you may recognize the name Reinke from his other business, Reinke Mining Services. (He currently has an advertisement in this issue.)

Josh and Sherrie are only a few years older than we were when we took over the Journal. They are enthusiastic, hard-working, intelligent and will be excellent stewards of the Journal. They’ve already conveyed some good ideas to improve and expand upon the progress we’ve made over the past two-plus decades. We are comforted knowing that the Journal will be in capable hands.

Sally and I will continue to work for the Journal on nearly a full-time basis for a considerable time to ensure the transition goes smoothly. The physical office is moving to the Reinkes’ hometown of Grass Valley, California, and you’ll notice the ICMJ mailing address has already changed. (The old PO Box in Aptos will remain open during the transition, so don’t worry if you’ve already sent us something by mail.)

I began working at the Journal when I was around nine years old, sorting and bagging copies for mailing when my grandfather, Herb Reid, was the publisher. From there, I went on to create our first computerized database. I handled newsstand accounts during high school and college, and as often as I could, I headed out each summer to go suction gold dredging. It’s been a part of my life for a very long time.

Sally followed me into this endeavor of publishing/editing and thrived at handling ad design, magazine layout, customer service and more. I’ve certainly been blessed to have her by my side.

And speaking of blessed, I believe we have the most loyal readers and advertisers of any magazine on earth. I want to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to you, and to our awesome writers and contributors who will continue to provide quality articles and information to help you be successful in your quest for gold and other precious metals.

Josh and Sherrie will see to it that the Journal is an even better publication for keeping miners advised regarding mining procedures, technology, equipment, prospecting locales and techniques, legislative and rule-making considerations, and all the rest that makes the Journal the premier magazine for miners and prospectors.
