Sunshine Mine is Up and Running Again

Sterling Mining Company has resumed initial production at the Sunshine Mine in Idaho. The company  anticipates a steady increase in production over the next three years until an average daily processing rate of 1,000 tons per day is achieved.

Fraser Institute Survey Results Rank Best (and Worst) Mining Locales

British Columbia made the biggest jump towards improvement in terms of regulations in the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies. BC, historically relegated to the bottom 10 locations to mine in the survey’s Policy Potential Index, benefited from a change in administration. Three years ago it was dead last.

Two Arrested in Alleged Mining Investment Scheme

The US attorney’s office indicted Diana Flaherty, of Las Vegas, and Michael Gardiner, of San Diego, in connection with a securities fraud scheme. According the indictment, Flaherty, and her husband Robert (now deceased), had managed Phoenix Metals USA II. Gardiner is identified as a company shareholder.

Why Environmental Groups Prefer Kerry

President Bush signed Executive Order 13352, “Facilitation of Cooperative Conservation,” on August 26, 2004. The World Gold Council reports that gold jewelry demand in the first nine months of 2000 is running a little above the record level of last year. Jewelry demand for the nine months was 2,114 tonnes, 1% above the level of a year ago, according to their quarterly survey “Gold Demand Trends.”
