Placer Examinations: Principles and Practice

This document was originally published by the BLM Phoenix Training Center in 1969 and subsequently republished in 1989.

While most of the material remains extremely relevant and helpful to today's prospectors and miners, it should be noted that pages 8 and 9 address items that have changed significantly since the orginal publication and the reader should review these two pages before continuing on with the publication. As an example, the price of gold was set at $35 per ounce in 1969, and calculations in this document are based on that price.
